Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers before you choose Aim-A-Drain.
What size downspouts does Aim-A-Drain fit?
Aim-A-Drain is designed to fit 2x3 rectangular downspouts and 2-5/8 square downspouts. It is not designed for round downspouts.
Is Aim-A-Drain for round downspouts?
No. Aim-A-Drain is made for compatible rectangular or square downspouts, not round downspouts.
Do I need special tools to install it?
No special tools are required. Basic tools such as a drill or screwdriver, metal snips or a hacksaw, a level, and a pencil are usually enough for a typical install.
Will I need to cut my downspout?
Some installations may require trimming the existing downspout or extension for the best fit. Basic cutting tools such as metal snips or a hacksaw are usually enough.
How long of an extension can I use?
We recommend using a lightweight extension up to approximately 4 feet long when you want Aim-A-Drain to stay held in position. Longer extensions may work when used only as a swivel, but they are not recommended if you expect the unit to hold or lock the extension up. Extra length adds leverage and weight. In high-wind areas, or anywhere the extension may be exposed to strong gusts, consider adding a simple strap, clip, or other support to help secure the extension when it is raised.
Can I move it out of the way when cutting grass?
Yes. Aim-A-Drain is designed so the leader arm can be swung up and out of the way when mowing, trimming, or maintaining the yard.
Why use Aim-A-Drain instead of a fixed elbow?
A fixed elbow points water in one direction all the time. Aim-A-Drain lets you redirect the water where you need it, then swing the leader arm up and out of the way when mowing or maintaining the yard.
Can it help move water away from my foundation?
Yes. Aim-A-Drain helps redirect downspout water away from the house, which can help reduce water collecting near the foundation.
Can I leave Aim-A-Drain installed year-round?
Yes, Aim-A-Drain can be left installed year-round. As with any downspout extension, check it occasionally for leaves, ice, or debris so water can continue to drain properly.
